Philippians 4:13 and the Faith-Fueled Life of a Business-Minded Single Mom

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13

Let’s clear something up right out of the gate.

Philippians 4:13 is not a hype verse. It’s not a hustle verse. And it is definitely not a “girl boss” slogan.

It is a survival verse.

It is a leadership verse.

And for me, it became a lifeline as a faith-fueled, business-minded single mom raising a daughter while building a career in Human Resources.

Because strength? Real strength? It isn’t self-generated.

It’s surrendered.

What Philippians 4:13 Actually Means for Christian Women in Leadership

When the Apostle Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” he wasn’t sitting in comfort. He was writing about contentment in hardship.

That matters.

As a single mom, I wasn’t just trying to “do it all.” I was trying to:

  • Lead teams as an HR Business Partner

  • Provide financially

  • Be emotionally present for my daughter

  • Keep our home grounded in faith

  • Stay as sane as possible!!

Philippians 4:13 didn’t tell me I was superwoman.

It reminded me I wasn’t alone.

There’s a massive difference.

Faith-fueled leadership means you stop performing strength and start depending on it.

And yes, you can be strategic, ambitious, business-minded, and deeply surrendered at the same time.

Those things are not opposites.

“No! Not Today!” — When Faith Gets a Backbone

There are seasons when faith feels gentle.

And there are seasons when faith has to stand up and say, “Absolutely not!”

When my daughter was battling Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), Philippians 4:13 became confrontational.

Fear would whisper. Statistics were beyond confusing and at times would try to define outcomes. Exhaustion would often creep in.

And my response became a mantra.

No! Not today!

Not today, fear.

Not today, anxiety.

Not today, enemy.

Joshua 24:15 wasn’t wall art in my house. It was a line in the sand:

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

That meant when panic tried to take up residence, I evicted it.

That meant when doubt knocked, it didn’t get a seat at my table.

I felt I had to muster up righteous anger.... To me that meant when the enemy came sniffing around my child’s future, I stood in the doorway spiritually and said, “You picked the wrong house dude!”

There’s a song called “Not Today” recorded by TAYA when she was with Hillsong United. And whatever your thoughts on church culture shifts over the years, the declaration in that song still hits for me:

The enemy thought he had me. But not today.

That was the energy.

Not arrogance.

But AUTHORITY.

Today, my daughter is healthy. She beat LCH. She is married. She is strong in her faith. And that testimony isn’t because I was extraordinary.

It’s because God was faithful.

Philippians 4:13 wasn’t about pretending everything was fine. It was about standing firm when it wasn’t.

Faith-Fueled Business Leadership and Present Motherhood Can Coexist

There’s a lie that Christian single moms quietly believe:

“If I pursue excellence in business, I’m neglecting home.”

“If I prioritize being present at home, I’m sacrificing leadership potential.”

No.

As an HR Business Partner, I learned that healthy systems create healthy outcomes.

Clear expectations.

Consistent communication.

Strong culture.

Accountability with heart.

I applied those same principles in my home.

Leadership is leadership.

Whether you’re guiding a team through change or guiding a child through fear, it requires:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Clarity

  • Integrity

  • And a heart posture aligned with Christ

Philippians 4:13 gave me permission to stop striving and start standing.

I didn’t have to prove I could do it alone.

I just had to remain anchored.

The Real Meaning of “I Can Do All Things”

It doesn’t mean you can avoid hardship.

It means hardship doesn’t get the final say.

It doesn’t mean you won’t get tired.

It means you won’t collapse under what God has called you to carry.

It doesn’t mean you’re fearless.

It means fear doesn’t run your house.

Philippians 4:13, paired with Joshua 24:15, shaped my leadership, my parenting, and my resilience.

Strength through Christ.

Alignment in my home.

Authority in my response.

That combination will carry a woman further than hustle ever could.

If you are a Christian businesswoman, a single mom, or a faith-driven leader trying to hold it all together—hear me clearly:

You are not required to manufacture strength.

You are invited to receive it!

Stand your ground.

Guard your house.

Lead with clarity.

And when fear tries to creep in—

Say it with me!

Nope!

No!

Not today!

xoxo Kennette

Still Faithful.

Still Moving Forward.
